Carolina Alert: The National Weather Service in Columbia has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the University of South Carolina’s Columbia campus through 4 a.m. on Saturday, 1/11/2025. https://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=cae&issuedby=CAE&product=WSW The Columbia campus is closed starting at 12 p.m. on Friday, 1/10/2025. The University will continue to monitor the weather system and its potential effects on operations. Carolina Alert: Columbia campus will close at 12 p.m. Friday, 1/10/2025 due to inclement weather.

Carolina Alert: Due to inclement weather, the Columbia campus will close Friday at 12 p.m. As a state agency, pursuant to the order of Governor McMaster, USC campus in Richland and Lexington Counties will be closed at noon today. All other campuses will follow the status of their counties. Employees designated as essential personnel should check with their supervisor if they are unsure of their status or have circumstances that prevent them from working on campus. Employees with telework agreements are required to work from home unless the weather event prevents your ability to work due to childcare, power outages, etc. All employees are urged to use caution traveling, as areas of the Midlands could experience sleet/frozen rain through early Saturday morning. The safety of our campus community is a primary concern of the university, so please monitor sc.edu/weather, x.com/uofsc, and Carolina Alert at sc.edu/carolinaalert for updates.

Carolina Alert: Hurricane Helene Update Due to inclement weather associated with Hurricane Helene, classes on the Columbia campus beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26 will be virtual. All classes scheduled for Friday, Sept. 27 also will be virtual. Additionally, campus on Friday will remain open for essential employees only. Employees should check-in with their supervisors and non-essential campus personnel are encouraged to work remotely if possible. Normal campus services will remain available to students, including dining, health services and access to virtual academic support services. Please exercise caution if you must travel during the storm, which is expected to bring rainfall and strong winds to the Midlands beginning this evening. If there is any possibility of a flash flood, move to higher ground. Monitor Carolina Alert at sc.edu/CarolinaAlert for flash flood warnings that may impact campus. Areas that are especially prone to flooding include the intersection of Main and Whaley streets, the parking lots behind 300 Main St., the parking lots behind the Blatt P.E. Center, Sumter Street under the railroad bridge, Pickens Street under the pedestrian crossing, and Five Points. As a state agency, the university follows the closure schedule of Richland County offices. Hurricane Helene Monitoring

In consultation with state and county emergency officials, the University of South Carolina is tracking Hurricane Helene and its potential impact on the state, which is currently under a Tropical Storm Watch. Monitor Carolina Alert's website at sc.edu/carolinaalert for important weather-related campus updates. Areas that are especially prone to flooding during severe weather include the intersection of Main and Whaley streets, the parking lots behind 300 Main St., the parking lots behind the Blatt P.E. Center, Sumter Street under the railroad bridge, Pickens Street under the pedestrian crossing, and Five Points. As a state agency, any potential closures are based on decisions by Richland County government offices.
