About Me

I come to South Carolina from Champaign, Illinois, where I completed my Ph.D. at the University of Illinois. I am a historian of modern Russia by training and wrote a dissertation on the deaths and funerals of celebrity female performers in late nineteenth- and early-twentieth century Russia. My research has been supported by fellowships from the Fulbright program, the Department of Education Foreign Language and Areas Studies program, and the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies. While at Illinois, I served on a student advisory board to the Graduate College, volunteered as a mentor for fellow graduate students, and was active in a peer support group connecting domestic and international students. Prior to graduate school, I taught middle and high school history and social studies to students from around the world for four years at the International Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia.
