Recovery, Resilience, and Renewal: Exploring Opportunities Through Counseling.
The 60-credit hour Masters of Arts degree in Counseling and Rehabilitation offers
three specialized practice areas: Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Addiction
Counseling, and Career Counseling. Each pathway prepares students for practice as
Licensed Counselors (LPC or LAC) and Certified Counselors (CRC, NCC, MAC, or CCC)
in diverse settings such as state and community agencies, private practices, industry,
hospitals, schools, and colleges. Our 18-hour interdisciplinary Certificate of Graduate Study in Psychiatric Rehabilitation
Studies focuses on recovery and is designed to develop competencies in psychiatric
rehabilitation.
About Us
Through education, scholarship, and hands-on experience our program prepares students
to develop practical, ethical, and culturally responsive professional counseling skills
to help enhance the quality of life for those living with and without disabilities.
Curriculum
Our curriculum emphasizes developing professional counseling knowledge and skills
and specialty skills to assist clients with their personal and interpersonal concerns
or challenges, address societal barriers, plan careers, and find and maintain desired
employment. In addition to classroom education, you will complete clinical field-based
practicum and internship experiences.
Psychiatric Rehabilitation Certificate
Our interdisciplinary Graduate Certificate in Psychiatric Rehabilitation is offered
to post-baccalaureate students interested in working with individuals with severe
psychiatric disabilities focusing on recovery, resumption of chosen life roles, full
community integration, and improved quality of life.

The Master of Arts (M.A.) in Counseling and Rehabilitation degree, with a specialization
in clinical rehabilitation counseling received accreditation by the Council for Accreditation
of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) for a full 8-year period through
March 2029. The Counseling and Rehabilitation program will prepare and submit its
self-study report for CACREP accreditation for the two NEW specialized practice areas,
clinical addiction counseling and career counseling, at the onset of students' field
experiences.
Because you have multiple responsibilities, we have a distance learning option to
make it easier for you to pursue your education and career goals without having to
move to Columbia. Courses are online with most offered in a hybrid format, so you
can attend synchronously in-person or online. There are a few required in-person meetings.
