Research Interests/Areas of Expertise

Dr. Chatzistamou possesses considerable experience in diagnostic surgical pathology including but not limited to GI, female genital tract, breast, lung, prostate, and head and neck. She also holds significant expertise in experimental pathology primarily related to the characterization of xenografts and transgenic/mutant mouse cancer models, and pre-clinical models of non-neoplastic conditions such as autoimmune, metabolic diseases, and tissue regeneration. Her postdoctoral training at Tulane University in the group of Nobel laureate Prof. A.V. Schally allowed her to perform bench research in experimental and neuroendocrine oncology/pathology. Dr. Chatzistamou's current interests focus on pre-clinical model characterization for pathologies, such as cancer, inflammation, and autoimmune and metabolic disorders. She is also interested in the use and characterization of non-traditional rodent species, such as outbred deer mice, as models for various pathological conditions.
