Biography

Dr. Harold Friedman founded the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 1984 and has served as chief of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery since then. He has been a member of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine faculty since 1984, becoming a Professor of Surgery in 1990. 

A graduate of Hobart College, Geneva, New York, Dr. Friedman earned a Ph.D. in anatomy from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia, and a doctor of medicine from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Charlottesville, Va. He completed a residency at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center, Tucson, Arizona, and a fellowship at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center, Charlottesville, Virginia.

Dr. Friedman is involved in research on implantable materials and soft tissue interactions. He is currently the Councilor for the Alpha, Omega, Alpha Medical School Honor Society, and Director of the Surgical Subspecialties Clerkship. A past president of the South Carolina Plastic Surgery Society, he presently serves on the board of trustees of the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons.
